IL CORPO CHE NARRA TRASFORMAZIONI

Co-produced by Reggio Children/Aterballetto

As a synthesis of the dialogue between children and dancers, choreography is an experience co-produced by Reggio Children/Aterballetto and performed in different contexts and various places in Reggio Emilia and other Italian cities. The show entitled “Il corpo che narra trasformazioni” debuted in May 2004 at the Reggio Emilia Dance Festival (RED) and is still occasionally included in national theatre festivals for children and kids.

The (teaching) Project and the show have been offered and performed at national and international training events such as “AttraversarConfini” in February 2004 and on training courses run by Reggio Children for teachers and workshop workers. An exhibition curated by the Choreia pre-school accompanies the show, using images, words, graphics and videos to document the children’s creative processes and their narratives with producing choreography.

…this is not the first time that dance and children are meeting, but it is perhaps the first time they are working on a joint project together.

A project made in Reggio Emilia which has its roots in children and in the creative processes of children aged 4 to 5 from the Choreia pre-school.

The children are the stars and creators of a one-act performance for adults, creating a real choreographed show which is, or aims to be, a reworking and reinterpretation of the narratives developed by the children, narratives developed with the body originating from and relating to movement through the sensitive re-reading of three choreographers from the Aterballetto Company.

The project involves children and dancers in a single dialogue that gives a voice to the children as bearers of a strong cultural message. Transformation and transforming is an important factor in qualifying and giving an identity to the children’s narratives with the body.

Transformation and transforming are carefully acted out, listened to and reworked by the children and then by the dancers in its symbolism, in its evolution…in how you become and feel like a spider, a lion, a dragon, a ladybird, etc.
