ENI06 NURSERY SCHOOL

The eni06 nursery school is part of the welfare project set up under Eni’s commitment to ensure increasing levels of support for people to find the right balance between their private life and work needs. It was founded following extensive comparison with cutting-edge national and international experiences. The initiative aims to achieve excellence in every field, from teaching to architecture, from organisation to management: it is a project that focuses on the well-being of the child and the community.

In particular, the project has been set up by Eni in collaboration with Reggio Children, a global consultant in the fields of educational, teaching, organisational and managerial projects for nurseries and pre-schools, and with the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Milano-Bicocca for the training.

The architectural project is therefore developed in line with the school’s educational goals. The environment, in terms of space (2,800 m2 of surface area and 3,000 m2 for green areas), architecture, furnishings, colour, light, materials and acoustics, aims to stimulate the various paths of growth for the children. It also has a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, which gives it a class A energy classification. Indeed, the facility uses solar panels, environmentally-friendly and recyclable natural materials, while also recovering rain water.

Opened in September 2010, the eni06 nursery school is run by Reggio Children and the Panta Rei Social Cooperative through a temporary joint venture (ATI) and welcomes children from 3 months to 6 years old.

The educational project is strengthened by a continuous path between the ages of 0 and 6, providing continuity between all pre-school learning. It meets the changes in pedagogical research, while also tackling the new skills shown by the children and the transformation of our living environment.

This nursery school’s innovative research paths focus on different languages, such as music and musical education as an all-inclusive experience (acoustic ecology) aimed at supporting and encouraging the children to listen to their environment, to their own actions and to how they move within this environment; nature and the sciences assert that scientific knowledge comes from the spontaneous observation of nature, from the big questions about the world, from exploration and from the reflective nature of our own thoughts, where any biological object is particularly attractive for young children: a new plant growing, an animal running, or a fruit discovered between the leaves; English or learning a second language in general every day within communicative and playful surroundings for the children helps train a flexible mind and a “plural and pluralistic mind” on a social level; while thanks partly to the nursery school’s kitchen, nutritional education can promote a balanced relationship every day between health, flavour and the joy of being at the dinner table together. Their relationship with the chefs and the opportunity to experiment in the kitchen together with them has a fundamental educational value, as the kitchen becomes an open laboratory that can accommodate special projects for the children and adults, as well as celebrations and in-depth meetings with parents about nutrition where there is a close connection between action and thought; given the role of families in recognising parents as valuable partners in the educational project, it becomes important to set up meetings throughout the school year for children and parents together and just for adults so they can build an educational community together; an atelier open to the region enhances the dialogue with the surroundings and the regional aspects of the learning experience, while through themed offers this facility invites children and adults to experiment and learn together through creative processes.

It is open to children and parents who attend the school, but also any others from the region.

Eni 0-6 is a corporate infant-toddler center and preschool school opened in 2010; it is an exemplary experience, based on a world famous pedagogical approach, designed to offer families maximum flexibility (open 12 months a year, from Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 7pm)
